Short answer

The best remedies for marriage delay are simple: a short daily prayer, a weekly fast (often Friday for Venus or Thursday for Jupiter), quiet charity and a temple visit of your family's choice, kept up for about 48 days. They cost little or nothing. Avoid anyone who pushes costly pujas or gemstones, or guarantees a marriage date.

When a marriage takes longer than hoped, families naturally ask what they can do. Tradition offers many remedies. The ones that help are simple, steady and nearly free. The ones that harm are usually expensive, urgent and wrapped in fear. This guide sets out both, plainly, so your family can choose calmly.

What is a remedy for marriage delay, really?

In the classical texts, a remedy is called shanti, which means "pacifying". Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and Phaladeepika describe it as devotion, recitation, fasting and charity connected with a planet. It is not a payment to a middleman, and it is not a purchase.

A remedy also does not replace the timing in the chart. Astrology reads marriage timing from the 7th house and its lord, Venus, Jupiter, the running dasha and antardasha, and Jupiter's yearly transit, called Guru bala (see how astrology reads marriage timing). A remedy helps a family stay steady, hopeful and active until a supportive period begins, and then use that period well.

So the honest way to say it is this: a remedy is guidance and support, not a guarantee.

Which simple remedies do families use? (Shadi me deri upay)

Choose what fits your family's faith and routine. Keep it gentle and regular. Steadiness matters far more than size or cost.

PracticeHow families usually do itTraditional linkCost
Daily prayer5 to 10 minutes each morning to the family deity. Many pray to Parvati or Gauri for a daughter, or to Lakshmi-Narayana.Devotion is the first form of shantiFree
Weekly fastOne day a week: Friday for Venus, Thursday for Jupiter, or Saturday during Sade Sati. A light meal is fine if health needs it.Fasting on the planet's weekdayFree
CharityFood, clothes or school fees for someone in need, given quietly. White items or sweets on Fridays, yellow items or dal on Thursdays, by custom.Charity linked to the planetWhatever you can give
Temple visitA temple of your family's choice, on a day that suits you. Near or far does not matter.Pilgrimage and darshanSmall or none
Service at homeCare for elders, a calm home, kindness to parents.Every tradition counts this as a remedyFree

A few points that keep these practices healthy:

  • Keep it short enough to continue. Ten minutes a day for seven weeks is better than three hours once.
  • The person getting married can lead it. It should feel like their own prayer, not a duty forced on them.
  • Health comes first. Anyone who is pregnant, diabetic, elderly or unwell can replace a fast with a simple meal and a prayer. Tradition allows this.
  • Do not mix many remedies at once. One or two practices, done steadily, are enough.

How long should a remedy be done?

Many families keep a practice for 48 days, just under seven weeks, then pause and review. The number has long been used in South Indian practice (a mandalam) and fits naturally with a weekly fast, which gives seven fasting days.

If your chart shows a clear reason for the delay, the practice can be focused on that planet. For example:

  • Venus weak (for example in Kanni/Virgo): Friday fast and prayer, white items in charity.
  • Jupiter without Guru bala, or Jupiter weak in a woman's chart: Thursday prayer, yellow items or dal in charity, respect to teachers and elders. See guru bala and marriage.
  • Sade Sati running: Saturday prayer, help to labourers, the elderly or the disabled. See sade sati and marriage.
  • Mangal dosha present: Tuesday prayer. Check first whether the dosha is cancelled by the classical exceptions (see the Mangal dosha check). Many are.
  • Rahu or Ketu in the 7th house: a calm daily prayer and charity. See Rahu-Ketu and marriage.

Navatara offers this as an optional 48-day plan, a simple week-by-week schedule built on your chart, ₹199, all taxes included. It asks for no costly ritual and nothing else to buy. You do not need it to follow the free practices above.

What should you avoid?

The harmful side of "remedies" is easy to recognise once you know the signs.

Warning signWhy it is a problem
A puja costing thousands, "urgently, this week"Urgency is used to stop you thinking or asking anyone else
Payment to a personal UPI ID for a ritual somewhere elseYou cannot check that it happens at all
A gemstone "you must wear now"Expensive, and the classical texts do not make it compulsory
"Guaranteed marriage within 90 days"No honest astrologer can promise a date
Frightening predictions about the person or familyFear is not guidance; it is pressure
A new, bigger remedy each time the last one "did not work"This is a sales cycle, not a reading

A worked example

This is an illustrative example, not a real person.

A family in Pune writes about their daughter, aged 29. Proposals have come for two years, but each one stalls after the first meeting. Her chart shows:

  • the 7th lord placed in the 12th house, which traditionally slows marriage;
  • a running dasha of a planet with no link to the 7th house, ending in about ten months;
  • Jupiter's transit giving no Guru bala this year, but moving into her 7th sign from the Moon next year;
  • no Mangal dosha.

The reading. The delay is mostly timing, not a fault. The next dasha belongs to Venus, and Jupiter's transit turns favourable at about the same time. That window, roughly 10 to 22 months away, is the supportive period.

The remedy. A Friday fast or light meal, a short morning prayer, and quiet charity each Friday, for 48 days. Then review. Nothing to buy.

What else helps. Keep meeting families now without pressure, so that serious talks can settle in the good window. When a proposal arrives, check the match properly with kundli matching.

What the reading does not say. It does not promise a wedding date. It shows when the timing is supportive.

What helps as much as any remedy?

  • Meeting proposals in the good window. If your chart shows a supportive period starting soon, plan important meetings for then.
  • Widening the search calmly. Family networks, community groups and trusted matrimony platforms.
  • Checking matches carefully. North Indian guna milan scores 36 points; South Indian porutham checks ten matches. Both read the same Moon stars. See guna milan vs porutham and how many gunas should match.
  • Talking openly. A young person who feels pressured often withdraws. A calm conversation helps more than any ritual.

Where traditions differ

North and South India, and each family, have their own practices: particular temples, days, chants and fasts. All of them are fine when they are simple, sincere and affordable. What the classical texts describe as shanti is devotion, discipline and charity. If a practice your family loves fits that, keep it.

Questions families ask

Shadi me deri ke upay kya hain? A short daily prayer, a weekly fast (Friday or Thursday is common), quiet charity, and a temple visit of your choice. Keep them simple and regular for about 48 days.

Which day is best to fast for early marriage? By tradition, Friday for Venus, the planet of marriage, or Thursday for Jupiter. During Sade Sati, some families choose Saturday. One day a week is enough.

Do I need a gemstone for marriage delay? No. A gemstone is never compulsory. If one is suggested, ask why, ask for a second opinion, and never buy under pressure.

Will a remedy guarantee marriage? No. It supports you while the timing works out. Anyone who guarantees a date is not being honest.

My astrologer insists on a costly puja. Should I do it? You do not have to. A calm second opinion is free: send your birth details on WhatsApp and ask.

What if we do not know the exact birth time? The timing can still be read from the Moon sign, with less precision. See matching without a birth time.
