How our guides are prepared, checked and corrected.

Who prepares the guides

Guides are prepared and reviewed by the Navatara editorial team. We do not use personal bylines, and we never invent an expert, a photo or a qualification. The team answers for every guide as a whole, and you can write to it at hello@navatara.in.

Classical texts we consult

Each guide names the texts behind its rules, in its Sources section. The main ones are:

• Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS): houses, planets, natural friendships and the Vimshottari dasha.
• Phaladeepika (Mantreswara): marriage indications and the 7th house.
• Jataka Parijata: the 7th house, its lord and marriage.
• Muhurta Chintamani (Vivaha Prakarana): Gun Milan (Ashtakoot), Tara, Bhakoot and Nadi.
• Kalaprakasika: the South Indian poruthams, including Rajju, Vedha, Mahendra and Stree Deergha.

Calculation references

Calculations are checked against two public references, Drik Panchang and Prokerala. The chart engine of our tools and of the WhatsApp service follows the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the standard behind most Indian panchangams.

Where references differ, we pick one named source, use it everywhere, and say so on the page. The Gun Milan tables come from Prokerala's Guna Milan: on 8 October 2026 we read 137 bride-groom pairs from it koota by koota, and every release of the free kundli matching check is tested against all of them. They agree on every koota except one cell we set on purpose: a Tiger bride with a Cow groom scores 0 with us (sworn enemies), 1 on Prokerala.

How the calculations are tested

Before any change goes live, automatic tests run:

• The 10-porutham check agrees with the WhatsApp service on every one of the 1,296 star and rashi combinations.
• The birth chart engine of the free tools agrees with the service on 3,000 test births, or marks the result borderline where the exact minute matters.
• The Lahiri ayanamsa agrees with the Swiss Ephemeris within one arcsecond from 1900 to 2100.
• Gun Milan agrees koota by koota with hand-worked examples, and stays within its limits on all 11,664 pada pairs.

Which tradition we follow

Sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses and Vimshottari dasha, as in Thirukanitha panchangams. For matching we use the South Indian 10 poruthams, with Rajju and Vedha as must-match, and show the North Indian 36-point Gun Milan beside them.

Where traditions differ, the page says so: for example, North Indian practice also counts Mars in the 1st house for Mangal dosha, and calculators use slightly different Gun Milan tables.

How often guides are reviewed

Every guide is reviewed at least every 6 months. The "Last reviewed" date on a guide is the real date of its last review or change; we never change a date just to look fresh.

Corrections

If you find a mistake, email hello@navatara.in or tell us in the chat. We check it, correct the guide and record the correction in the change log below. Calculation mistakes in a paid reading are corrected and resent free.

What astrology can and cannot do

Astrology describes tendencies and favourable periods. It can help a family think clearly and choose a good time. It cannot promise a marriage date or an outcome, and it is not medical, legal, financial or psychological advice.

What we never do

• No paid placements and no sponsored guides.
• We do not sell pujas, gemstones, yantras or amulets, and we never take a commission on them.
• No fear-based predictions, and no "guaranteed" remedies.
• No invented reviews, ratings or numbers of users.

Our data

The statistics in our guides, such as the share of star pairs that reach 18 gunas (68.8%), are computed from the same code as the tools every time the site is built, never typed by hand. You can download the full table of star pairs.
