Your birth star, in a few seconds
Your birth star is the nakshatra the Moon was in at the moment of birth: one of 27 equal parts of the zodiac, each 13°20' wide and split into four padas. Matching, dasha periods and many family customs start from it, which is why families write it in every kundli.

What is a birth star (nakshatra)?
Your birth star is the nakshatra the Moon was in at the moment of birth: one of 27 equal parts of the zodiac, each 13°20' wide and split into four padas. Matching, dasha periods and many family customs start from it, which is why families write it in every kundli.
Rashi (Moon sign) by date of birth: what is it?
The rashi is the zodiac sign the Moon was in at birth. This finder works as a free moon sign calculator: enter the date of birth (and the time, if you know it) to see your rashi. Indian astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, so your rashi is usually not the same as the Western sun sign you see in magazines. A birth star belongs to one rashi, or spans two, which is why the pada matters.
What is the lagna?
The lagna (ascendant) is the sign rising in the east at the moment of birth. It changes about every two hours, so it needs the birth time. The houses of the chart, and with them marriage timing and Mangal dosha, are counted from it.
What if I don't know the birth time?
Choose "I don't know the time". The finder then works at 12 noon, as your personal astrologer does, and tells you if the Moon changed star during that day. The star is right for most days; the lagna needs the time.
How is it calculated?
With the sidereal zodiac and the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard of Indian panchangams. The engine is tested on 3,000 births against the calculations of our WhatsApp service, and the time zone of each place is taken from your phone's own time zone data, including India's older time zones.
